{Sharing Time} I Can Prepare Now To Be Worthy To Enter The Temple

 Sharing Time Ideas from the 2014 Primary OutlineIDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE(singing a song): Ask the children to listen for what their sacred duty is as they sing the first verse of “I Love to See the Temple” (CS, 95). Tell the children that they can prepare now to enter the temple when they are older.
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING(discussing worthiness): Show a picture of a temple. Explain that because the temple is a holy place, only those who are worthy can enter. Tell the children that living the standards in For the Strength of Youth will prepare us to be worthy.  Write some of the standards on separate wordstrips. Divide the children into groups, and give each group a wordstrip. Have each group stand and explain how living that standard will prepare them to be worthy to enter the temple.
ENCOURAGE APPLICATION(playing a game): On separate pieces of paper, draw pictures of a mouth, eyes, ears, hands, and feet (click here for sample drawings available from lds.org). While the pianist plays “I Love to See the Temple,” have the children pass around the drawings. When the music stops, ask the children holding the pictures to tell one thing they can do with that body part to prepare to go to the temple (for example, they can pray, speak kindly, and tell the truth with their mouths). Repeat as time allows.
 Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS IdeasFor this week’s Sharing Time I decided to share some old ideas I have used in years past. I am sharing 3 ideas with you today, so take a look and pick which one you like best. Enjoy!
#1 Temple Bag Swap:Prepare by creating a temple puzzle: Find a picture of a temple and cut it into 6 pieces.
Prepare six items that represent things the children can do to prepare themselves to go to them Temple. You can use pictures or objects to represent these things.You can have things like:PrayStudy ScripturesGo to Churchor any standards from ‘For The Strength of Youth’ would be great.
Place the 6 items into 6 bags and label the bags 1-6.Inside each sack you will place a puzzle piece along with the object.
Hand the sacks to 6 children. Choose a child to stand up front. Then have them give two or three instructions to the Primary to pass the sacks (for example, pass it three people to the right, pass it forward once). The children follow the instructions and pass the bags to other children.The child at the front of the room then calls out a number from 1 to 6. The person holding that sack opens it and guesses what the item represents.Ask the child how that item can help us prepare to go to the temple. Discuss it with the children. You could also find some stories for each object or invite some parents in to talk about how doing that (praying, studying scriptures, etc.) helped them prepare to go to the temple.
Once you have discussed what the item represents have the child get the puzzle piece and place it in the appropriate place {have the children place the puzzle piece onto a chalkboard or bulletin board so everyone can see it}.Choose a new child to be a leader and repeat for each sack.
Once all the sacks have been opened and the puzzle is complete remind the children that Heavenly Father wants each of them to go to the Temple. Encourage them to set a goal to be married in the Temple so that they can have an Eternal Family.

#2 Temple Game Board:For this idea you will use the same ‘sack’ idea as above, but instead of a puzzle you will be using a game board. Have 6 sacks with various clues/standards inside.
On a poster-board create your game board by having a starting point with a boy or girl as your marker. Draw a pathway from the ‘start’ to the other side of the poster-board. At the end of the pathway have a temple.As the children reveal each item in the sack have them move a certain number of spaces (you could have them roll a dice or have them move the number of spaces that their bag was labeled as).
I created a game board for you to use if you’d like. Just print it out and use it for your sharing time. #3 Steps to the Temple:Here is an idea I shared awhile ago. It fit perfectly with this week’s theme, so I figured I’d share it again. :)
Have a poster with a girl or boy at the bottom corner. In the opposite corner (up at the top) have a temple. Have a path drawn from the boy/girl to the temple. You can have a path, steps, or have several different colored squares (as many squares as standards you decide to discuss).Tell the children that this little girl/boy would love to go to the temple one day, but there are things he/she needs to do to prepare.
In a bag, a punch-a-box, balloons, or hidden throughout the Primary room…. have several items/objects or wordstrips for each standard you plan to discuss.Choose a child to come to the front and pick an item out of the bag. Have him/her show the children what it is and ask how this particular item/word can help us get to the temple. Discuss the standard, then move the little boy/girl on the poster one square. You could tape that standard to the first square and continue taping the standards as you go.
As you discuss each standard move the little boy/girl. After each standard is discussed the little boy/girl will be at the temple.Tell the children that we can prepare now to be worthy to go to the temple. Encourage them to follow these standards and if they do they will be able to go to the temple one day.
**You could also show the child the object and then have him/her give the other children clues to guess what it is. You can make up a list of clues before-hand in case they need help. Once the children have guessed what it is have the child show them and then discuss the standard it belongs to.
