{Sharing Time} I Am A Child Of God And Can Be Like Him Someday

Sharing Time Idea from the 2014 Sharing Time Outline
Identify the doctrine and encourage understanding (seeing pictures, singing a song, and reading a scripture): Show several pictures of baby animals to the children and ask them what each animal will grow to be (for example, a kitten will grow to be a cat). Show a picture of an infant child and ask the same question. Explain that there is something special about a human baby that is different from animal babies. Invite the children to listen for whose children we are as you sing together “I Am a Child of God” (CS, 2–3). Ask a child to read Psalm 82:6, and discuss what the song and scripture teach. Write on the board “I am a child of God and can be like Him someday,” and ask a child to read it out loud.
Encourage application (sharing): Invite several children to share ways they feel love from a parent. Explain that Heavenly Father wants us to feel His love as well. Share a way you feel God’s love for you, and invite several children to share ways they feel His love for them. Ask the children to listen for what whispers to us of His love as you sing together “I Know My Father Lives” (CS, 5).
Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS IdeasTo begin your Sharing Time use the ‘Identify the Doctrine’ idea above. I also had an idea that you could use. On pieces of paper have a picture of a baby animals and one with a human baby. On the back side of each paper have a picture of that same animal after it has grown {a kitten will grow to be a cat, etc.}. Underneath the picture of the grown animal & human, have one word or two words from the scripture, Psalms 82:6;“Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.”
Have the children look at each picture and have them tell you what each animal will be once it is grown. When they answer correctly flip the picture over to reveal the grown animal and the word(s) for the scripture. After all pictures have been flipped over have the children put the words into the correct order. When the scripture has been put in the correct order have the children repeat the scripture with you. Explain that there is something special about a human baby that is different from animal babies. Write on the board “I am a child of God and can be like Him someday,” and ask a child to read it out loud.
Next, ask the children if they know of someone that loves them. Ask the children to share the names of people that love them {Grandparents, Aunts, Sister, Brother, Mom, Dad, etc.}Then ask the children how they know that those people love them. You can write down what they say or just repeat and discuss with all the children.
Tell the children that our Heavenly Father also loves us very much, and He shows us His love in very many different ways.Inside several boxes, bags, buckets, etc. have items or pictures to represent God’s love for us.Invite a child up to the front and have them pick a box. Have the child remove the item or picture and have them share what it is with the rest of the children. Discuss the item with the children. If you could find some type of heart shaped containers to place your clues in that would be great! But if not, no big deal.
For older Children:You could have different words that the children can act out or draw. Have the other children guess what it is.On some of the papers you could have the child share his/her own answer of how they feel God’s love.
Close by asking the children to listen for what whispers to us of His love as you sing together “I Know My Father Lives”.
