Any ideas on lesson 30.. #22-23?

Patricia Crockett DuBray

:

I had 5 young men dress up (a brought several large old shirts, a few hats, overalls, a big heavy coat etc) as Oliver, Joseph Sr, Jospeh Knight, Hyrum and Samuel. They wore their names on strings around their necks and we asked them questions about their life and conversion.

For example question a. who was the first patriarch for the church? Joseph Smith Sr. (the 5 YM had a list with the answers) b. who was the first branch president for the church in Colesville? Hyrum. 10 questions.. The students who asked the questions made their best guess and then one of the 5 would step forward identifying himself as the correct answer.

Just did this lesson today. I told the class that after a 6 hour wait at the DMV I decided I would help them out by giving driving tests and giving Drivers licenses to anyone who would not want to wait for one. I wouldn’t charge as much and it would be more convenient. I then asked who would like to take part in this. Some thought it was a good idea but the general consensus for the classroom was that I didn’t have the right to give anybody a drivers license. Which of course led into the conversation of authority. We then discussed the priesthood and how that power had been restored. Even though many churches are well-intentioned for trying to do what Christ would have them do…. It is only through the proper channels of the authority given by Him that makes the covenant legitimate. We then discussed and used the same lesson outline in the Manuel. Pointing out that Joseph Knight was counseled to join the true faith and church pulling back around to the Priesthood. I asked the YM in class to stand and discuss what the Priesthood means to them a couple lessons ago and today was another flash back to that. Then a journal time to answer questions in the lesson.

I did the same as Debbie, gave each group a poster and let them tell us the exhortations and expectations for each man and then anything we should highlight. They did a terrific job! They get so much more out of a small group of scriptures cuz they ponder them more I think. The background comments from the manual were super helpful too!
